Here in the boondocks of Livingston Manor, NY, we are hit with day two of an intense snow storm. I think I was more excited to be outside and playing than my boys were. My daughter and I built a lame snowman that we call our 'snow lady' because none of the boys helped us. Not even Daddy!
So what now? My boys think it's gonna be a day filled with video games and such, but no....Mama has other plans. Let's do the major housecleaning today so Saturday is a free day to do whatever.
Alas, comes the fighting between brothers. They share a room. They share autism. But what they don't share is the right way to communicate with each other. Kelly gets easily annoyed when Jesse stims, and forgets that once upon a time, he used to stim just as much. Jesse hates being near Kelly for fear that Kelly will just smack him to show his displeasure. Then I have to be the mean mom that I never wanted to be and intervene.
Sometimes, my temper gets the best of me, and I scream and even spank Kelly. But I have to remind myself that he needs more understanding and that my temper only escalates the situation. So after I count to 100, I take him aside and have a talk in the most calm way possible. He calms down, and apologizes to Jesse. They become friends.
Until next time.....
